    Such a great spot! Consistently good food and service with a positive energy. When the weather is nice, the deck is perfect!! If the grown-up grilled cheese is available, you will not be disappointed. It's beyond delicious...it's phenomenal.

    We stopped in last summer (didn't realize I never wrote a review) on the way to Quebec. We were a family of five so we had a large sampling of the menu. My kids LOVE French Onion Soup and this one did not disappoint. The sandwich and the salad, all enjoyable. The Lobster roll.... I've never had a lobster roll that I really liked (we live in Texas). The lobster roll wasn't cheap, I think it was $16 but WOW! it was soo good. We also enjoyed local Switchback draft beer and appreciated the friendly service we received. We enjoyed it and we will likely return.

    We stopped in for lunch. Extremely good service and food. The french beef sandwich is really good. Perfect crunch on the outside of the local sour dough bread. Creamy melted VT cheddar with great tasting roast beef. Overall great experience.

    Excellent, fresh food! The service was perfect - friendly and attentive throughout. There were four of us and we ordered the Mediterranean salad, the holy guacamole hamburger, the raspberry turkey wrap, and the chicken guacamole melt, respectively. Then for dessert, a slice of vanilla raspberry sour cream cake was shared. The prices are reasonable and everything was delicious!! If you want a locally owned eatery with fresh food, this is the place. We will definitely return.

    This place is awesome! I found it when I was looking for a dog friendly place to eat while on vacation. The food was amazing. I highly recommend the brie bowl appetizer! The service was fantastic. The server even gave our dog a nice big portion of turkey. I'll definitely return next time i'm in St. Johnsbury. It's a gem!!!!!

    This is about as quaint as it gets. This place used to be the post office, but now, you can walk in and stuff your face with some delicious food. I got the Bacon Bleu Burger...and, though I asked for medium and it came out medium/well, it was still one if the best burgers I've ever had. I'm sure it's due to some fancy local ingredients or something but my gut says it's because of whoever cooked it. It was delectable. Gorgonzola is the most under-rated burger cheese. Well played, chef. Also of note: the sweet potato fries. Perfectly balanced with the burger. Go discover some great food at this joint. It's simply worth it.

    I have never had a less than great experience here. The food is exceptional- interesting and always fresh. I especially love the Tiffany sandwich with Gouda and pesto. The red pepper soup is out of this world, as are the others as well. Friendly staff too. Overall, this is a really wonderful restaurant.

    We read a lot of reviews of places in St. J and weren't sure where to go. The reviews at Dylan's were great but the recent ones we read were about lunch, but their dinner was 5-star too. All three of us had different dinner specials, and we were all happy -- something for everyone (curry chicken, shrimp scampi, and fish & chips). The waitress was pleasant and dessert was great too. Definitely a great stop and we will be back.

    The ambiance is great but the food is only so so. The service was slow when we were there so that is also why the three stars. Also, they advertise French Onion soup and are rated as having the best in the area, however, they don't serve it in the summer!

    Great atmosphere, excellent wait staff and topped off with a delicious lunch. The sandwich special was a turkey wrap with raspberry Melba . All local foods and absolutely fabulous. My wife had the best lunch in ages.

    What a disappointment! We stopped because if the good reviews but did not have a good experience at all. We had the forester specialty sandwich which was ok, a little too toasted especially on the edges (had to disassemble the sandwich to keep from hurting my mouth). We had the French onion soup which everyone raved about but I found it not so flavorful (the onions were not as carmelized/cooked down as I have had before). The Caesar salad and tomato/dill soup was just ok. My son had the cheese quesadilla which was also toasted to the point of being crunchy. Finally the service was very slow. Sorry to say we would not recommend. :(

    Had lunch here recently while passing through St J on the way to Montreal. Little cafe in an old post office building. I think the idea of that sounds better than the reality, as it was kindof dark and drab despite being a big space (20+ foot ceilings?). Owners have done what they can, though, with nice local art on the walls, skylights, and an outdoor deck/patio (which is probably the right move on a nice day). Food was very good: I had a terrific house roasted turkey club (+1 for thin apple slices tucked in there) with crispy fries, while my friend had a fine bacon cheeseburger with salad. Impressively, Dogfish Head beer on tap to wash it down. Our server was friendly and attentive. Overall, a solid little bistro. If I lived in the area, I'm sure I'd be here often. Look forward to checking out other menu items next time I'm passing through.

    A friend and I ate lunch at Dylan's Cafe today and it's an experience that I won't repeat. We were seated at an end table where one chair was tight between the table and the person behind with no room to squeeze into the seat. We moved the table a few inches (the person seating us couldn't be bothered) which left the other person (me) sticking out into a drafty hallway that lead to the bathrooms and apparently a storage room. It was just uncomfortable. We decided to ask for a booth and were told by the person who seated us, that the booths were for larger parties. We were offered a table for four right in front of the door. We declined and went back to our seat and ordered but told our waitress about it. Her response was that she was new and wasn't sure how it was done. The next three parties of two were then seated at the three open booths by both our waitress and the original person. A booth was not offered to us. Two things occur to me either 1) the servers are sexist because each couple was made up of a man and a woman or 2) the original server enjoyed the power she held over us and how dare we question her seating assignment. I wanted very much to leave, but my friend and her husband are regular patrons there while I'd only been there three or four times. We waited a loooooong time for our food and when it came, the well done burger I'd ordered was very pink inside and tasted old (good sweet potato fries though) and my friend's order was dried out and overly spicy. The waitress never came back to check on us, left the check and the dirty plates in front of us and told us to have a great day! I was a waitress in my younger years and I worked my way through college as a hostess. I always leave a 20%-25% tip. Never have I ever stiffed a waitress until today. Needless to say I won't be going back.

    Ok but not great. Their kids menu had a marinara & cheese flatbread but when tried to order it they were "out of marinara" and changing their menu. I had a turkey Ruben which to me means plan for a drippy loaded with kraut sandwich. This one had way too much dry turkey and hardly any kraut. Kind of bummed

    French onion soup on a cold sleety day hits the spot. Nice bistro atmosphere. Local artists on the walls and high-backed booths as well as standard chair and tables, so flexible seating options. Fast service at lunchtime even though they were full up. Sent back my soup when it had the undesired bread (I am gluten free) and it was changed out cheerfully. Karla Salad with warm chicken and Gorgonzola (basically a Cobb salad with sweet balsamic vinaigrette instead of cream dressing) hearty and savory. Will try here for dinner next time I'm coming to Catamount Arts.

    Decor: Located in an old post office. High ceilings, small, and quaint. Probably the largest party they can handle is 8. Service: The servers were nice and friendly. Not too chatty (which is often a good thing). The service is a bit on the slower side, but that could be attributed to the fact that we were there on a busy Saturday lunch time. Food: The food was very good, considering that there weren't many other options in the middle of St. Johnsbury, Vermont. All the food is fresh (fresh greens and veggies). Lots of yummy ingredients like pesto, mozarella, goat cheese, red peppers, avocados... This place was recommended to us by our hotel front desk.

    Although I love the idea of this cafe---using local products when possible, the food wasn't all that remarkable. I had the NY Steak which was cooked to my request, but only had a little bit of pepper on top of it and nothing else. The mashed potatoes allegedly had Vermont cheddar cheese, but I couldn't taste any. My wife had the Tuscan chicken which had more flavor, noticeable cheese, but tons of olive oil and they forgot the spinach. We do love olive oil, but without bread to sop up the extra pint or two, it was a bit much to eat. Our waitress was also a bit odd, seemingly like the cliched disaffected youth, coming by only to take our order, deliver our order, and deliver our check and never once refilling our water glasses. I'd try them again for something other than dinner in case they were having an off night or a new chef, and I really really love their idea of using local ingredients, but fortunately that won't be an option as I'm only passing through the area.

    Since the move to Eastern Ave - the food locality has been limited to Cabot cheese that you can buy at Price Chopper, there were no fresh baked goods and pastries as advertised online, our waitress was ambivalent, though willing to answer our questions when we queried where our food came from. I miss the Dylan's that had local food (and good food), waitstaff that didn't zone out like a applicant for a zombie film, and ambience. The move took none of those things with it.

    There aren't a whole lot of options for food in St Johnsbury, and Dylan's is pretty damn great. I've been a couple of times and had great sandwiches with really good fries. The french onion soup is pretty awesome as well. Cool spot, can't wait to try dinner sometime.

    Never again... We have a family tradition of going out to eat whenever someone has a birthday. Mine was last week and someone had raved about this place to my father. There aren't a lot of restaurants in this area, so naturally we were excited to learn of a new place that was allegedly worth while. We got there with high hopes that would gradually slide out of sight as our night rolled on. The first thing I noticed was the tacky "artwork." The most prominent piece being a huge poster with screen printed depictions of plastic shopping bags in various positions. Now I'm no professional, but I'm pretty sure such things don't merit the $700 price tag that was parked next to it, perhaps they forgot the decimal point and it was supposed to say $7. Either way it was affixed to the wall with scotch tape like a kid would do with a poster in their bedroom. We were there for 2 solid hours, the bulk of which was spent waiting for our food to come. The only other patrons in the place were 2 women who were already there when arrived, so there was no logical explanation for the delay. We ordered 3 burgers and a salad. They must have had to go out back and strangle the cow, what else could possibly cause the prep time to take an hour and a half? I ordered a burger with a side salad, the burger was to be medium, but came out rare, my father and husband ordered burgers with fries, their patty specifications were reversed and there was a fistful of fries that were unmistakably the exact Ortega Shoe String fries my hubby used to cook at the grocery store deli he worked at through college. My side salad was advertised by the waitress to be a mix of delicious vegetables, but what came out was nothing more than a fistful of lettuce that wasn't even prepared to be salad, instead it was full leaves so large I was left with the choice of dissecting it with a butter knife or gnawing it down like a tortoise. The burgers were not simply room temperature, but actually chilled. I'm sure this was caused by something as simple as pulling the bun and tomato directly from the refrigerator and placing them on a room temperature patty. We had waited so long for the food to arrive that we didn't dare send it back for fear that we'd have to spend the night before actually receiving something suitable. I ordered a slice of carrot cake (because it was, after all, my birthday) and rather than taking anyone else's dessert order, the waitress raced off returning with one slice of cake and 4 spoons. Let that sink in. One slice, four people... and spoons? Perfect. So, we resorted to freestyle and the cake was actually pretty good. The last part of my visit was to the bathroom, I usually don't share such things, but this bears noting. The previous occupant of the restroom had clearly had some intestinal distress and left, shall we say, evidentiary support. I entered the room with no such intentions, however... I was glad to be there when the moment struck. Again I never share such things but it bears noting... It shot out of me with all the fury of a fire hose. I hadn't had anything else to eat that day so there was nothing else to blame for this reaction. Come to find out, my husband was experiencing the same reaction. I returned to the table to find my father waiting to pay the bill which totaled over $65. For 3 burgers, a salad and one slice of cake? We ordered nothing but water to drink, it's not like the bill included wine or anything. I'll be surprised if they stay in business much longer if this is their standard of service, I sure won't be returning. I felt bad because my dad was so excited to try this place, but was terribly let down and looked so sad when we left. That, folks, is how we celebrated my 30th birthday.

    I'm from the suburbs of Chicago and it's a delight to be able to find progressive restaurants throughout the northeast. I asked the 20-something's staff at the local bookstore where to go and they directed us to Dylan's for locally grown/raised produce and meats. Ambience: The restaurant is in a renovated post office (?) without much indication of what lies within. Inside you immediately sense that it is a new/hip kind of place with local artwork, although it is slightly spartan in decor. Service: The waitress/hostess was lovely, helpful, upbeat and knowledgeable. She was very attentive and the food was served in a timely fashion. Food: We had my friend's favorite beer in the world which happens to be a local brew. (I think it was called "9") We had a tasty spinach salad with thinly sliced apples, shaved almonds and a nice light dressing, along with some other tasteful garnishes. We also had the Tuscan Chicken (?) (maybe a different name) with locally raised chicken, spinach and tomato atop linguine in a pesto-type sauce with parmesan. My friend thought there was too much olive oil, but I thought it was yummy as it was. The presentation was excellent for both dishes, and they were both quite delicious. I would more than happy to have this restaurant in my home town, but alas, that is not to be.

    Great find! The best BLT, with Vermont cheddar and bacon. Husband's sandwich was excellent as well. We went for lunch. Service was very good, too. Wish we lived closer so this would be a regular for us.

    Since the move to Eastern Ave - the food locality has been limited to Cabot cheese that you can buy at Price Chopper, there were no fresh baked goods and pastries as advertised online, our waitress was ambivalent, though willing to answer our questions when we queried where our food came from. I miss the Dylan's that had local food (and good food), waitstaff that didn't zone out like a applicant for a zombie film, and ambience. The move took none of those things with it.

    There aren't a whole lot of options for food in St Johnsbury, and Dylan's is pretty damn great. I've been a couple of times and had great sandwiches with really good fries. The french onion soup is pretty awesome as well. Cool spot, can't wait to try dinner sometime.

    I'm from the suburbs of Chicago and it's a delight to be able to find progressive restaurants throughout the northeast. I asked the 20-something's staff at the local bookstore where to go and they directed us to Dylan's for locally grown/raised produce and meats. Ambience: The restaurant is in a renovated post office (?) without much indication of what lies within. Inside you immediately sense that it is a new/hip kind of place with local artwork, although it is slightly spartan in decor. Service: The waitress/hostess was lovely, helpful, upbeat and knowledgeable. She was very attentive and the food was served in a timely fashion. Food: We had my friend's favorite beer in the world which happens to be a local brew. (I think it was called "9") We had a tasty spinach salad with thinly sliced apples, shaved almonds and a nice light dressing, along with some other tasteful garnishes. We also had the Tuscan Chicken (?) (maybe a different name) with locally raised chicken, spinach and tomato atop linguine in a pesto-type sauce with parmesan. My friend thought there was too much olive oil, but I thought it was yummy as it was. The presentation was excellent for both dishes, and they were both quite delicious. I would more than happy to have this restaurant in my home town, but alas, that is not to be.

    Loved my warm goat cheese salad and the ambiance here. It's a lunch place with something a little special.

    Great find! The best BLT, with Vermont cheddar and bacon. Husband's sandwich was excellent as well. We went for lunch. Service was very good, too. Wish we lived closer so this would be a regular for us.
